Garden City Lights 2020

We were delighted to launch our centenary year in style with the fabulous Garden City Lights event, created and delivered by  the Wonderful Welwyn Garden City team at the BID.  Over 20,000 people attended the two day event on January 17 and 18.

A series of stunning illuminated installations were enjoyed over the Friday and Saturday evenings in the town centre.  Our Chairman Peter Waine was joined by our Patron, Lord Salisbury welcomed the crowds to this spectacular event, declaring the centenary celebrations officially open.

Children of primary and secondary schools in Welwyn Garden City paraded their incredible lanterns throughout the town centre and then enjoyed the interactive, neon lights room which was hosted inside the Howard Centre.

Our Music and Performing Arts team delivered a stunning showcase of local musical talent on two music stages; one on the Starbucks balcony and one at the Anniversary Gardens.

Our sterling team of volunteers provided information and tips to the public, sharing interesting facts about the town and its 100 year history.  A great selection of street food and bars kept people fuelled and warm for the chilly evenings.

We also hosted a VIP reception at the Anniversary Gardens to thank our extremely generous sponsors for supporting a much anticipated year of celebrations.

GardenCityLights was proudly supported by Tarmac, Tesco, Home Instead Senior Care, TJ Fire and Security, Kinetic Cycles, The Howard Centre, AL Marketing, Gill’s Bathrooms & Kitchens, Hertfordshire County Council, University of Hertfordshire, Vortex Events, LAPD Lighting and Route Canal Arts.
