Young Snappers shine at awards ceremony in run up to centenary

Pupils from 26 WGC schools took part in a photography competition as part of plans for the town’s centenary.

Youngsters from across the borough submitted their best snaps, with the winners given prizes at an awards do last week.

Welwyn Hatfield mayor councilor Barbara Fitzsimon, handed out trophies certificates and gift vouchers to 18 children whose photographs were judged by the WGC Photographic Club.

She said: “I was truly amazed at the quality of these photographs taken by these young people – it was a revelation looking at their work.”

The winders will have their snaps entered into the “best of the best” competition for the WGC centenary celebrations in 2020.

Dr Dennis Lewis, leader of the Centenary Photographic Competition team, said they were “delighted” with the standard, and encouraged pupils to submit their photos next year as well.
