2017 Winners of the school photographic competition

Photographic Competition – Winners to be announced

The WGC Photographic Club (WGCPC) is first off the starting blocks. Commencing in April this year, it announced and arranged its contribution to the centenary celebrations with an annual WGC schools photographic competition, which will be repeated each year up to and including 2020.

Working with the WGC schools and the WGC Centenary Foundation, students from the town’s primary, secondary, private and special schools were invited last spring to submit entries to a judging panel. Trophies, certificates and cash vouchers will be presented by the Mayor to the winning contestants at Campus West on 7 September 2017.

Richard White, chairman of the WGCPC said, “We are delighted to be the very first organisation to start the ball rolling towards 2020, the centenary year. In partnership with the schools and supported by the Centenary Foundation we are organising a series of annual photographic competitions in 2017, 2018 and 2019, culminating in a ‘roll-up’ centenary event in 2020. This year the WGCPC exhibition will include the schools’ fourteen winning prints from 2017 in a one day exhibition in the Howard Centre atrium between the escalators on Saturday 9 September.”

Stanborough School head teacher, Peter Brown, who also chairs the heads of WGC schools group, is chairman of the Joint Working Group set up by Dennis Lewis, David Kell and Graeme Bell. Mr Brown said, “I am delighted that students of schools in the town are the first to be involved in the centenary celebrations.” The Centenary Foundation stated that the direct and active involvement of young people was vital and by working together with the schools, plus the enthusiastic support of the WGC Photographic Club and other interested parties, centenary celebrations would continue to be successful up to and including the town’s centenary year 2020.
